NEW YORK, NY - Indian cricket team skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the only Indian cricketer to figure in Forbes’ list of world’s 100 highest paid athletes, which is otherwise, conquered by football, basketball, boxing and tennis players. The figure take account of salaries, bonuses, prize money, appearance fees, licensing and endorsement income between June 2013-2014.
MS Dhoni has been ranked 22nd in the list with total earnings of $30 million and endorsements worth $26 million. According to a recent report, Dhoni is the highest individual tax payer in Bihar and Jharkhand region paying 20 crore income tax in the year 2013-14. He is currently endorsing 21 brands including the likes of Spartan Sports and Amity University. The first place on the list goes to the heavyweight boxer Floyd Mayweather who has earned it all from salary/win and not from any kind of endorsements. Tiger Woods, the golf legend tops the list of athletes minting money through endorsements with a total of $55 million.
Other athletes featured on the list include tennis player Maria Sharapova (34), Jamaican runner Usain Bolt (45), tennis player Serena Williams (55) and Formula One racing driver Sebastian Vettel (83). (Agencies)
