Convention Center in Los Angeles to participate in the 15th Annual Sikh Day Parade on Apr 13. Each year this parade is organized by volunteers of Gurdwara Khalsa Care Foundation under the guidance of Joginder Singh Sidhu with the support of Gurdwaras and the Sikh community of Southern California. One of the main organizers, Gurdip Singh Malik tracing the start of the tradition of the parade in the city, said the first one was held in 1999 and since then, with each passing year, it was growing in popularity.
The participating floats were beautifully ornamented for the occasion. The lead float carried the Guru Granth Sahib escorted by the ‘Panj Pyaras’, (the five beloved one’s) bearing the Khalsa flag. Keertani Jatha of Gurdwara Khalsa Care Foundation Bhai Varinder Singh did keertan on the main float. Other floats displayed messages from the sacred Sikh text like ‘Manas Ki Jaat Sabhe Eke Pechanbo’ (Recognize all human race as one); and the three principles of Sikhism: honest livelihood, meditation on god and sharing with others. Before the start and at the conclusion of the Nagar Keertan, Gatka, the Sikh martial art, was showcased outside of the Convention Center. Snacks in the form of paneer pakoras and poori chole were served to the congregation. Volunteers of Ujjal Didar Singh Foundation distributed helium balloons to the participating children.
