in Pacoima, nearly 2000 people gathered to celebrate the day. Kirtan and Shabad Vichaar followed Sukhmani Sahib Path. Two special congregations were held to celebrate the day. During the morning session, Bhai Harjinder Singh, one of the most popular and eminent Raagi Jatha from India performed Gurbani Kirtan and Bhai Sahib Singh from Canada presented religious discourses. In the evening, Bhai Harjinder Singh and Jatha performed Kirtan and Bhai Pinderpal Singh, a renowned Katha Vachak spoke to the congregations about the spiritual and historical importance of the day. The ambience in the Gurdwara Sahib was serene as per the relevance and significance of the day. Everything was designed in white and even the members of the congregation wore white clothes. Similar celebrations were held at Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Walnut where nearly 3000 attended the religious congregation. Around 18 food stalls were put up, serving different variety of food. Kirtan by the students of Punjabi School was followed by Kirtan and Katha by Bhai Raghbir Singh. He said this day provides us with inspiration to illuminate our mind with the light of Gurbani and drive away the darkness to liberate ourselves from vice. A special congregation was held at Gurdwara Singh Sabha Buena Park. Kirtan by Bhai Gopal Singh was followed by a religious discourse by Bhai Mohar Singh from England. He said Guru Hargobind initiated the ‘Sant-Sipahi’ (Warrior- Saint) lifestyle code for the community. He added for a Sikh, the first call of duty was to be a wise, knowledgeable and exceptionally virtuous person and secondly, a warrior too, to protect one’s own dignity and that of others. Food stalls were put up by the Sangat members.
At Sikh Center of Orange County (SCOC), Santa Ana, Bhai Harjit Singh, Jaswant Singh GNCA school teachers and members of congregation did Gurbani Kirtan. Sangat members came in hundreds to pay respect to Guru Granth Sahib.
People at all places of worship lit up lamps and celebrated the day with a festive spirit and religious fervor.
