LOS ANGELES, CA - Sikhs across SoCal celebrated Guru Nanak Dev’s 547th birthday with religious fervor, collective spirit and effort, asserting Guru Nanak’s message of honest and dedicated living, remembering God and sharing with the needy, during a weeklong celebrations from Nov. 14 to Nov. 20.
LOS ANGELES, CA - Sikhs across SoCal celebrated Guru Nanak Dev’s 547th birthday with religious fervor, collective spirit and effort, asserting Guru Nanak’s message of honest and dedicated living, remembering God and sharing with the needy, during a weeklong celebrations from Nov. 14 to Nov. 20.
At Khalsa Care Foundation, Pacoima, the congregation gathered early in the morning for Parbhat Feri, a traditional early morning walkabout, and sang hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib. Kirtan of Asa Di Vaar was followed by Kirtan by Hazoori Raagi Bhai Varinder Singh and Bhai Surdeep Singh. Sant Anoop Singh performed soulful Kirtan and inspired the gathered devotees to connect to the higher purpose of life. The highlight of the celebrations was that the whole congregation started ‘Sehaj Path’ together.
At Gurdwara Singh Sabha Buena Park, nearly 2500 members of the congregation gathered to celebrate this revered day. Volunteers put up food stalls for sangat members who gathered in large numbers. Eminent Raagi Jathas, Bhai Harjinder Singh from Mumbai, Bhai Beant Singh Bijli, Hazoori Raagi Bhai Gopal Singh, Bhai Gurdeep Singh performed melodious Kirtan. President of Gurdwara Management, Jaspreet Singh talking to IJ said all the children of the congregation were given Sikh history books and a T-shirt and were encouraged to learn the rich religious and cultural traditions of Sikhi. At Sikh Center of Orange County, Santa Ana, students of Guru Nanak Children Academy celebrated the Gurpurab with members of the congregation. The entire program was performed by the children from Kirtan to Ardass. Children from grade 1 to 6 performed Kirtan in separate groups. In addition children read poems and also spoke on the contributions of Guru Nanak to the society. Principal of the academy, Savneet Kaur gave away the awards to children who took part and thanked the members and volunteers for their selfless service.
