Sikh heritage and culture through the mediums of art, books, music, and films. This year’s SAFF highlighted social issues, recognized talents and upheld harmony between the Sikh faith and the peripheral cultures that surround its diverse followers. The opening night red carpet event on Nov 21, featured a synopsis of films, books, art, performance pieces and music. Special presentations of student films made by scholarship recipients from the Chapman University Film School were screened.
Michael Kowalski, Associate Dean Dodge Film and Arts was given the ‘Sikhlens Chapman Dodge Partnership Award’. Speaking on the occasion, Kowalski said it was a pleasure to work with Bicky Singh and Michael to make the documentaries and it would nit have been possible without their passion, vision and the sense of mission. He thanked them for giving students the opportunity to do what they love to do and also providing the opportunity to make films that had meaning for deeper purpose and power to change the world to a certain degree. Dean of Dodge College, Robert Bassett said Bicky Singh’s tireless efforts had provided a platform where students of Dodge college and members of the Sikh community come together to understand the power of films. He said the result of this collaboration was that students had made films that had helped tell the stories of Sikh identity to wider communities.
