Rath Yatra and Bahuda Yatra here on July 6 & July 13. The chariots were pulled by Swami Ishwarananda and Swami Muktatmananda. It was symbolic of the homage of the Guru to the Jagadguru, Lord Jagannath. Around 1000 people from the Bay Area, Greater Los Angeles, San Diego, Imperial County and all around Orange County turned up to pull the chariots. Throngs of devotees including devotees from other religions sang and danced to the majestic rhythm of kirtans.Throngs of believers seeking Lord Jagannath’s blessings, vied for the divine opportunity to pull the ropes of the chariots along in the procession. First time, aerial videography was introduced by Satya Nayak with drone technology to capture the special moments of the large procession.
This year, a new chariot was introduced for the next generation which was embraced by the young with great interest and curosity. The deities were adorned and seated on beautiful lotus seats in the chariot with a new prabha especially made to show the various Gods or Devtaas offering homage to the Lords. The Deities looked very colorful and attractive with beautiful Taihas used during Pahandi or the journey from their mandap to the chariots and decorated with garlands made of fresh lotus and jasmine strings. Special Puja and Archana of the Lord took place in the morning followed by Chappan Bhog, 56 different items presented before the Lord in clay pots.The afternoon celebration started around 5pm with a vibrant cultural program of music, dance, drama and folklore. Yearly Bhakti magazine was distributed on Bahuda Yatra filled with very good paintings, articles from renowned writers and poets from the community and India as well. As the cultural program was coming to an end, priests started the Sandhya Arati. At the end, devotees had a great time in chariot pulling amidst a cool breeze, Indian food, music, dance, drama and went home with a rich experience after a delicious dinner.
