over 1000 devotees came to enjoy Shiv abhishekam and Shiva parvati kalayanam.
Pandit Giriraj Bhandari, Janki Parikh, and Devki Nandan Raturi sang beautiful bhajans along with Gautam Roy who played the tabla and Pratik Joshi who played the harmonica. The Mandir’s Chairman Bhoodev Tiwari and President Usha Agrawal thanked all volunteers and sponsors for their contributions in making the event a success.

Malibu Hindu Temple
MALIBU,CA - Shivratri was celebrated at the Hindu Temple Society of Southern California, commonly known as the Malibu Hindu Temple, on Mar 3 March 4.
On, Mar 3, the temple celebrated with 101 individual homas and havans for couples to offer their prayers to Lord Shiva. This was followed by all day celebrations culminating in Shiva abhishekam. Nadadur S. Kumar, the General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer of the Temple, spoke to hundreds of devotees explaining the significance of Shivratri. The program culminated with a Bharatanatyam dance recital presented by the students of Shiva Shakthi Natyalaya and Shakti School of Bharatanatyam.
Kumar concluded the program by thanking hundreds of devotees who stayed all night to celebrate.

Sindhu Center
NORWALK,CA - Mahashivratri was celebrated with enthusiasm and festivity on March 3 at the Sindhu Center here.
Over 200 devotees arrived to attend the event throughout the evening. Many of them offered food and fruits to the deity.Melodious Bhajans were sung by Jayshree Gohil with instrumental support by Pratik Patel and Saeed Bhai. Many devotees got up and danced to this music.
Prasad was served by volunteers. Many devotees had observed fast and enjoyed the fruits. Delicious food was served to all including thadal which is thandai without ‘bhang.’

Siva Kameswari Temple
COSTA MESA, CA - The Mahashivratri event held at the Siva Kameswari Temple here was a sight to behold yet again this year. The day started off with ‘Sahasra linga archana’ followed by special alankaram. The evening program comprised of five Abhishekams.
Cultural performances by Shakti Dance School and Kuchipudi dancer Lakshmi along with Pundit Pathak and his group added divinity to the evening.
The ‘Lingodhbhava’ at midnight gave a glimpse of Lord Shiva in Kailasa to all the devotees ardently waiting for darshan. The ‘akhand’ jap station was used by few of the devotees to perform continuous Shiva chanting.
Around 1200 devotees who visited the temple on this auspicious day were also provided food along with prasad.
Chinmaya Mission
TUSTIN,CA - The three-day long celebration began at Chinmaya Mission’s on March 2 with Shiva lakshaarchana by balavihar teachers, including from the far flung satellite centers around SoCal. The next day, parents and students from middle school and above, performed Shiva sahasranaama archana (1008 names of Lord Shiva) to complete the sankalpa of the Shiva lakshaarchana. Parents and students participated in this grand and well planned puja with great devotion and enthusiasm.
The celebrations culminated on the day of Mahashivaratri, March 4. The auspicious day of Mahashivaratri was ushered in with prayer, devotion, music and dance.The elaborate and traditional puja began early, at 6 am in the presence of Swami Ishwarananda with mahanyaasam and ekadasa rudra japa by 11 ritviks. Led by them and Pandit Shrikantha Shastri the crowd present chanted the Sri Rudram and Chamakam. Simultaneously, the rudra abhishekham was performed at the altar. After this, the Rudra Homam was performed, concluding the morning devotions.
The evening began with over 1,000 devotees thronging Chinmaya Rameshwaram for the dharma abhishekam bringing with them, milk, fruits, honey and flowers as offerings. As devotees lined up to perform the abhishekam with milk to the Shiva Linga, dance offerings to the Lord was presented by the Shristhi School of Performing Arts and the Shakti School of Dance contributing to the devotional atmosphere. The Chinmaya Swaranjali group presented many melodious bhajans as did the Chinmaya Shruti group. Chinmaya Shlokanjali group also chanted many beautiful shlokas.
Maha prasad was offered to all devotees. At midnight, mahamangala arati took place, concluding an auspicious day. Devotees who had been fasting for the entire day were offered light prasad.

Shri Nand Shiv Durga Mandir
MONTEBELLO, CA – Devotees of Lord Shiva, celebrated Mahashivratri at Shri Nand Shiv Durga Mandir on Mar. 4, with great devotion and love. The event started at 6:30 pm and continued to 10:30 pm. Celebrations began with Shiv bhajans, kids reciting Shiv mantras, and Shiv sahastranaam, followed by aarti and prasad.
