SANTA ANA, CA - The yearly ‘Day of Remembrance’ was held on February 11 at the Santa Ana Gurdwara here and brought back very fond memories of Late Capt. Kanwar Harbhajan Singh fondly known as Papaji. Harbhajan Singh was the founder of The International Institute of Gurmat Studies, known around the world as IIGS. He passed away on January 30, 2011 while visiting his extended family in Mexico City. He started the camping movement...
and to date, 90 IIGS camps have been held in India, Nepal, U.K., USA., Canada and S.E. Asia. To honor his memory, IIGS also awards scholarships to Sikh Youth. The evening function started with Shabad Keertan by the Santa Ana Gurdwara resident Ragis and was followed by lilting music and Gurbani Shabads sung by students of Gurbani who showed their prowess with various musical instruments. Scholarships were then presented to the successful applicants and others were encouraged to apply for the scholarships next year. The program came to an end with the IIGS Group taking to the stage and singing beautiful Shabad Keertan which had the Sangat in the gurdwara joining in. After the Ardas, Prasad was served and a sumptuous Langar was enjoyed by all.
