LOS ANGELES,CA-The celebration of the 548th Prakash Utsav of Guru Nanak Dev took place at the Friendship Auditorium here on Nov 18 with thousands of devotees in attendance.The program began early in the morning with Asa Di Vaar at the Hollywood Sikh Temple with Bhai Ajit Singh Hazoori Ragi.

A caravan of cars then followed Sri Guru Granth Sahib to the Friendship Auditorium. Students from an assortment of gurudwars and Punjabi schools in Southern California took turn on stage to perform Kirtan. Various Kirtani Jathas then came on stage to perform Kirtan. The highlight of the program was kirtan by Bhai Inderjit Singh of Shree Darbar Sahib Amritsar Wale from India who performed soulful kirtan. Another highlight was five Raagi Jathas of local gurudwaras performing Kirtan together.
Taking time between the singing, organizers recognized local dignitaries. Representatives of Sheriff James McDonnell of Los Angeles were presented with a Siropa. Representatives from the offices of Congressman Brad Sherman, Congresswoman Judy Chu, LA City Council members David Ryu and Jose Huizar among others were given plaques of appreciation. Appreciation awards were also given to management committee members vice president Bhupinder Singh Dhillon, Dr Amarjit Singh Marwah and Kirtan Singh Khalsa of Guru Ram Das Ashram who did a splendid job of decorating the hall and stage.
Closing kirtan was sung by Kirtan Singh Khalsa of Guru Ram Das Ashram.
Langar was served all day with the cooperation of all participating gurudwars, starting with breakfast served by Bhai Ghanaiya Ji Sewa Dal. Fresh jalebis were served by Baba Sweets.The hard work of Amarjit Singh in coordinating the langar was greatly appreciated.
A Punjabi Bazaar was set up with vendors selling a range of products and doing brisk business.
