LOS ANGELES,CA- Nanak Sadan Sikh Gurdwara on Dec 17 in North Hills collaborated with Punjabi University, India to celebrate Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s 350th birth anniversary via an international academic symposium. The event was embellished by the fact that it was the first such event where eminent Sikh scholars made presentations from across the globe through Skype. S. Mokshinder Singh, President of Nanak Sadan Sikh Temple,
formally opened the conference with a welcome speech that was then followed by a presentation in India from the Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University, Dr. Jaspal Singh. The Vice Chancellor elaborated on Guru Gobind Singh’s contributions in not only the spiritual realm but in music, poetry, war strategies to create a force that opposes tyranny and encourages personal responsibilities for a good life. This set the theme of the conference.
Dr. Gurnam Singh, Head of the department of Gurmat Sangeet studies and Academic Dean, Punjabi University Patiala made a presentation on “The Kirtan tradition in Guru Gobind Singh ji’s Bani”. Professor Gurnam Singh is not only an academic of great standing he is also a renowned musician. In his presentation, in addition to describing the novel elements of poetry and music created by the Guru, he performed parts of the Guru’s compositions. mobile learning company then built on the theme set by the previous speakers and presented a talk on “Guru Gobind Singh’s tools for a multi-dimensional life”.

Marymount University L.A spoke on “Guru Gobind Singh’s Call to Revolutionary Love as Warrior Saints”.
Dr. Paramveer Singh, Head of the department of Encyclopedia of
Sikhism, Punjabi University Patiala “Religious freedom: Prospective of Guru Gobind Singh Ji”
Dr. Kuldeep Singh, the organizer and host of the conference, recognized the need for this kind of academic and global partnership. He commented on the significance of this symposium: “This event has created a relationship between two otherwise isolated worlds, eastern and western Sikh scholars; today a very special and important cultural bridge was built.”
The conference ended with the Presidential Speech by Dr. H.S. Sahota.The famous cardiologist and inventor presented his ideas on how to create a positive image for the Sikhs especially in times where there is misunderstanding of the Sikhs and where many suffer from discrimination.
S. Gajinder Shah Singh, Secretary of Nanak Sadan Sikh Temple, concluded by thanking the speakers and presenting an overview of the mission of the Nanak Sadan Sikh Temple. He also thanked the host, Dr. Kuldeep Singh, for organizing the conference as well as acknowledging the technical support team in Punjab. The event closed with a musical presentation of Punjabi University Anthem.
