organizing committee members, the US and Indian national anthems were sung by the audience. Emcees Jay Naik and Vedanshi Bhojak greeted the audience and highlighted the significance of the festival of light.
Jashbhai Patel, President of Cerritos Indo-American Seniors welcomed the audience and summarized the activities of the organization. PK Nayak extending Diwali wishes said, “The joint celebration today, represents the unity that we have here.”
Vijay Patil then described the mission and activities of ICS and SMAP.
Parimal Shah, introduced the guests of honor: Bob Archuleta, California Senator; Cerritos College President, Dr. Jose Fierro; Dr. Shin Liu, Cerritos College Trustee; and Hollywood Fashion Designer, Dr. Shekhar Rahate. Shah also distributed Certificates of Appreciation to the organizers on behalf of Assemblywoman Christine Garcia.
The cultural program highlighted a variety of traditional and modern dance routines. The special guest of honor was Bollywood celebrity Boby Bedi. Dressed as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, he performed a high-energy dance sequence on the life of the king.
After a Diwali diya dance, choreographed by Rachana Srivastava, was performed, Aparna Hande described the importance of the five days of Diwali.
Savithri Arts Academy presented various classical dance performances that depicted the importance of Diwali and also included a Nepali dance routine.
Subhash Tolia then mesmerized the audience with his soulful voice, bringing popular Bollywood and Indian folk tracks to life during his two-part solo performance. He demonstrated the breadth of Indian culture through genres such as garba, classical dance and pop. He got audience members on their feet to dance.
A sumptuous complimentary dinner was also provided to all.
