WALNUT, CA - It was the 3rd Annual ‘Remembrance Day’ organized by the International Institute of Gurmat Studies (IIGS) on Feb 22 evening in the memory of Captn K. H. Singh (lovingly known as Papaji) at Walnut Gurdwara. The Remembrance Day is also a day of Celebration as the top Sikh students who applied for the Captain K. H. Singh Scholarships were awarded on this evening. Melodious Kirtan and lively talks highlighted the life of Papaji and concluded with giving away of scholarships.
WALNUT, CA - It was the 3rd Annual ‘Remembrance Day’ organized by the International Institute of Gurmat Studies (IIGS) on Feb 22 evening in the memory of Captn K. H. Singh (lovingly known as Papaji) at Walnut Gurdwara. The Remembrance Day is also a day of Celebration as the top Sikh students who applied for the Captain K. H. Singh Scholarships were awarded on this evening. Melodious Kirtan and lively talks highlighted the life of Papaji and concluded with giving away of scholarships.
Kirtan was started by two Gujarati young boys Akash and Sagar who have been learning Kirtan and wanted to come on the stage and sing the wonderful Gurus’ Bani. Gurudwara Santa Ana’s GNCA students sang one shabad. Baba Farid Sangeet Academy’s students, Bhai Naib Singh, Bhai Anantvir Singh and Bhai Raghubir Singh and IIGS jatha headed by Sardarni Gurpreet Kaur regaled the Sangat with melodious Kirtan.
Sardarni Rajinderjit Kaur of New York, Sardarni Sumeet Kaur from Moreno Valley and S. Maninder Singh Sethi talked about Papaji’s life, sewa and impact on the youth and Sikh Sangats around the world. Their words and stories brought joy and tears. Sardarni Payal Kaur and Sardarni Maninder Kaur conducted scholarship awards of the event. The number of applicants had gone up this year and so had the challenge of selecting the top talent. Students applied for these scholarships from all over USA and Canada. Three scholarships and two special ‘Recognition Awards’ were given to top 5 applicants. The winners were Uddampreet Singh from Perkasie, PA, Japsimran Singh from Moreno Valley, CA and Gurchit Singh from Berkeley, CA for the scholarships. Special Recognition Awards went to S. Ikjot Singh from Burbank, CA and Sumreen Kaur from Surrey, Canada. Evening concluded with delicious langar and Sardar Daljit Singh thanking everyone for coming and with a promise from IIGS to continue doing everything it can with Waheguru ji’s grace for the betterment of the community including announcing scholarships for 2014-15.
