CHINO HILLS, CA - On Oct 25, golfers gathered to have fun and participate in the tournament dedicated to the memory of Captain K.H. Singh (Papaji), the founder of International Institute of Gurmat Studies (IIGS) at the Los Serranos Country Club. The purpose of the event was to encourage youth to take up sports and...
raise funds for Sikh students. The scholarships are given to those who are pursuing higher education. In the first 3 years, 8 scholarships and 7 special recognition awards have been given to 15 students from across USA and Canada. This year too, IIGS announced three scholarships in the amount of $1000.
Divjot Singh, a young 15 year old who just took to the sport recently won the putting contest. Winners for the eagle flight in the best ball foursome category were Jasbir Singh Tung, Malkit Singh Bhasin and Satyajit Singh. Winners in Birdie flight in the same category were Kewal Gill, Ashish Joshi, Peter Ma and David Ruttenberg.
Participation of all women foursome needs a special mention. Most of the members in this group took up golf only for this tournament and practiced regularly for almost three months. Before the start of the play, rules were announced by Eric ‘The Mulligan Man’ Tracy. His colorful presence and his fancy golf cart add a special touch to the tournament. Once the game started, serious golfers got down to business quickly, while the beginners were seen enjoying themselves, taking in the course and the view. As the evening rolled in, so did the dinner guests. Golfers also came off the field after their round of golf. The evening program started with a quick glimpse of IIGS in 2014. This was followed by special recognition of the women foursome. This was followed by recognizing the Sponsors and special thanks to all the participants, especially the volunteers. MCs of the evening were Guninder Kaur and Gurpreet Kaur along with Eric Tracy. Jasdeep Singh was the DJ. Dan McKinnon aka Danny Magic, enthralled everyone with his magic performance. The day concluded with announcements of tournament winners and raffle giveaways.
