running for the California State Assembly from District 74. Khetarpal, founder and CEO of Tools of Growth , has received rave reviews from renowned industry critics like Publisher’s Weekly and Library Journal for her book. The message also has endorsements from acclaimed industry experts like Dr. Shefali Tsabary, featured recently on Oprah’s Lifeclass. She is currently working with a local school district on implementing the tools she advocates. In the book, Khetarpal assures readers that they really are the “perfect” parent for their children. She asks, “What do we want to get out of parenting our kids?” Beyond the typical answer of “We want them to be happy,” we also want our children to continue to communicate with us when they become adults. Her book shows us how to build a stronger relationship with our children, based on the same principles of mindfulness and conscious parenting that she uses in her classes.
How is this book different than many others? Roma believes that nobody can tell you ‘how’ to parent. You already know how to do that. This book, however, gives parents the tools to uncover their own inner perfection. Each chapter has simple exercises and takeaway— such as “Dealing with the Feeling” and “Take Five”—that will equip parents to be able to handle any situation.
The beauty of this book is the way Khetarpal shares her personal story of raising her own children and the lessons she has learned. Parenting is more than keeping a child clothed and fed, it is nurturing a child’s emotional growth as well. Instead of focusing on our faults and what we have done wrong, we need to focus on this wonderful relationship we have and nurture the bond we share with our children. We truly are the “perfect” parent for them. She lives in the Los Angeles area with her husband, Harish. They are the proud parents of two adult children, Nitasha and Navin.
