His funeral was attended by about a thousand people including his family, students, musical community and fans.
Kumar was born to Pt. Bansilal, a tabla maestro in his own right having won a gold medal in the Maharashtra tabla competition event and then being a Guru to his son. Kumar’s talent had led him to perform with some of the world’s best of the best, high profile musicians. These included classical artists such as Pt Ravi Shankar, Pt. Laxmi Shankar, Pt. Hawaldar; Gazal giants Gulam Ali, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Pankaj Udas, Talat Aziz, Pakistani legendary singer Reshma, Bhajan legend Purshottam Jalota and Hari Om Sharan to name a few.
Kumar was chosen from many as the accompanying tabla player for a world tour by Jagjit Singh and Anup Jalota.
Some of the renowned venues that he performed at included: The Royal Albert Hall and Wembley Conference Center in the UK, Madison Square Gardens in New York; Rothman Hall in Toronto and the Getty Music Hall.
