which suggestions and advice by a few colleagues changed his life. My City Financial is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. It opened in 1994.
“It was these suggestions that motivated me to attain all the certifications and licensing in order to help the local community. They wanted me to become the resource to them and others as their loan officer,” said Mathai.
“Finance always intrigued me partly because of my education but more importantly I found it immensely rewarding helping people get the right financing to acquire their real estate,” said Mathai. My City Financial received its US incorporation in 2006. Both his businesses hold a Triple A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. Prior to opening My City Financial, Mathai worked with UPS in an array of upper level opportunities. He credits his former positions to assisting him in creating and building My City Financial. “I had a successful career at United Parcel Service. I served in various management positions in my 10 year tenure. I am grateful for this as it gave me not only the education but the experience to lead a company,” said Mathai.
Despite being able to utilize all of his previous experiences, Mathai still faced many obstacles in the first few years of his business. “When I began, the real estate market had crashed in 1994. Interest rates were high and many homes were being foreclosed. It was a time when I questioned if I made the right choice due to the uncertainty in the local real estate market and the future of the industry,” said Mathai. Pushing through with the hope of being able to continue, grow, and thrive. Mathai faced challenges in the following years as well due to extenuating circumstances which were out of his control.
“The next market crash took place in 1997 and then 2008. There is no doubt that the economy will correct itself due to concerns of rising inflation and foreign trade policies,” said Mathai.
Even to this day, Mathai is presented with difficulties. However, with hard work and dedication Mathai strives to help his customers to the best of his ability.
“I work diligently to meet my clients’ needs and being their resource to ensure their loan is funded and their real estate needs are always met. Our community knows which individuals and companies are in the forefront and truly dedicated to their business,” said Mathai. In spite of other companies and their issues, My City Financial and Prime California Realty has managed to maintain a sense of consistency. “It is discouraging to see realtors or loan officers changing companies frequently as their only motivation is monetary and not service,” said Mathai.
My City Financial and Prime California Realty have valued the customers they had, have, and will have in the future. Mathai builds and creates bonds with his customers that are so deep that he creates a warm, approachable, and personal rapport with them.
“My business clients truly become my friends. In fact all of them know my family and staff intimately. This relationship of support and friendship is what encourages my staff and myself to always be prompt and attentive to our customers’ needs,” said Mathai. “It is no doubt a personal service. I have always been a humble person and I know how I was raised in America by my parents since 1977. They always told me to respect elders and people in general. My office staff also maintains the same integrity to ensure that our clients can rely on us,” said Mathai. Word of mouth of satisfied clients have helped My City Financial to grow..
“We are expanding to Northern California as many of our clients are referring their friends and family to us there,” said Mathai. Prime California Realty as well has had a few developments. It has attained some needed accreditations with aspirations to grow. “Our real estate division recently has received the certifications to list and sell real estate owned bank properties. So we are looking to acquire newer and experienced realtors to be part of our growing real estate division,” said Mathai.
