LOS ANGELES, CA - A child brings love and joy to a family, but there are several Indian-American couples in the US who are less lucky than others. And, for them Indianeggdonors.com has turned out to be a blessing in disguise!
The agency that came into being in 2006 is helping nearly 30-40 couples complete their families every year.
The brainchild of Director Deepak Gulati, Indian Egg Donors came into being when a team member and gynecologist Dr. Keswani mentioned to him that she was finding it very difficult to find Indian donors in the US. Then, Gulati came up with the idea to help Indian-American couples who were looking for donors from their own culture. According to Dr. Vijaya Natarajan, MBBS, MS-Obstetrics and Gynecology and also Manager at Egg Donor-Surrogacy Program, “Family is what ultimately makes every human complete. We see that addressing this need is the most satisfying way to help people. It is very heartbreaking not to be able to conceive or carry the baby. Though it is very difficult to come to terms to take the help of an egg donor or a surrogate to carry the baby, the very sight of the baby removes all these thoughts away! Indian culture has been very closed to these ideas all this while, but it is opening up now and people are accepting this new science very well.” Talking about the procedure, requirements, costs and challenges involved, Dr Vijaya told IJ, “Any healthy woman between the age of 21-31 years can become an egg donor. It is completely anonymous. The egg donor has an initial consultation with the physician, undergoes ultrasound and blood tests to see if she is eligible to be an egg donor. Once the results are available, the woman has a short course of birth control pills followed by injections for 2 weeks which ends in egg retrieval.” About the reimbursements, she mentioned, “Any woman who becomes a donor gets repaid $8000 after the egg retrieval. This is a great help to young women who are looking to clear their loans or to study further.”
“However, the biggest challenge we face is getting enough Indian donors. The demand for them is always very high,” she further stated. Dr. Vijaya talked about the new Surrogacy Program. “This is a process where another woman carries the baby if the intended mother for some reason cannot carry the baby herself. We are launching a new low cost surrogacy both in India (for Indian citizens) and in Africa along with surrogacy in the US. The intended parents can coordinate with us through emails and phone calls and everything can be arranged from the US. The only trip they need to make to Africa is to pick up the baby after 9 months ! The process is done at half the cost of surrogacy in the US which makes a huge difference and we are hoping to make it a lot easier for couples who are embarking on this route to complete their families!” On being asked, ‘Are there any risks involved, cases gone wrong, or bad experiences so far?’, she replied, “None”! Detailing about her team of efficient doctors and said, “Mr. Deepak Gulati is the Director, Dr. Rashmi Gulati is our medical advisor, I am the manager for the egg donor, surrogacy program and Dr. Nafsun Akhtar is our egg donor and surrogacy coordinator. We all work tirelessly to help couples make their dreams come true.”
