SAN DIEGO,CA - The City Council of San Diego declared March 18 through 25 as Indian Fine Arts Academy Music and Dance Festival 2018 week . This proclamation was read and handed over to Academy secretary Shekar Viswanathan by Steven Hadley, Community Outreach Director of District 1,
City Council ProTem President Barbara Bry’s office. The festival was a grand event with 76 artists from US, UK, Canada and India participating at the David and Dorothea Garfield Theater Jewish Community Center in La Jolla.
Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam was given the Natya Vidya Nidhi award for her Lifetime contributions to the classical arts.
As part of this year’s festival, birth anniversaries and centenaries of a number of legends were celebrated including Balasaraswathi’s birth centenary, Ramnad Krishnan’s birth centenary, Dwaram Venkataswamy Naidu’s 125th year birth anniversary, Ravi Shankar’s 98th birthday , and Dr ML Vasanthakumari’s 90th Birthday. Sseveral distinguished artists were featured for the first time at the festival including Dr Padma Subrahmanyam, Abhishek Raghuram, Mridangam maestro Karaikudi Mani, and many others.
