ANAHEIM, CA - More than 170 people lined up early morning on Dec 3 for medical/dental/vision care at Anaheim Convention Center. ANAHEIM, CA - More than 170 people lined up early morning on Dec 3 for medical/dental/vision care at Anaheim Convention Center. By the afternoon organizers- the City of Anaheim, GBS Linens, Anekant Community Center and Lestonnac Free Clinic had treated 765 people. People had travelled hours to get their teeth removed,

get medical checkups or get a pair of eye glasses – all for free! For the first time online registration was offered and 150 people had registered in three weeks prior to the event.
This was 11th Anaheim Health Fair, an annual event held from 2007 and for the first time a second one in the same year. Around 220 volunteers poured their hearts in serving the underprivileged that very patiently waited in long lines especially for blood tests, dental treatment and eye glasses. While many contributed GBS Linens, Masimo Foundation, Sarva Mangal Family Trust, Drs. Meera and Jasvant Modi, Drs. Bharat & Neena Patel Foundation, Brown Bag Brigade, and Walmart were major sponsors. Walmart partnered with us for the first time and will provide eye glasses to 212 patients. Their pharmacy staff helped administer around 150 flu shots which were given by Orange County Health Authority. 280 patients received dental treatment like extractions, fillings, cleaning.
A patient who could not stand up independently since 10 months due to stroke was taught how to stand by Occupational Therapist Purnima Karia He and his wife were ecstatic. His wife told the organizers that she literally dragged him to the health fair as he did not even want to go there! This is just one of the several examples of what the Health Fair does.
Dr. Nitin Shah welcomed sponsors, California Senator Janet Nguyen, Staff of City of Anaheim, all medical and non-medical volunteers on Dec 3 for a brief ceremony. Kantilal Shah, President of Anekant Community Center welcomed and thanked all. Ed Gerber, Executive Director of Lestonnac Free Clinic explained the benefits of such an event to needy people and then invited California Senator Janet Nguyen. The Senator was overwhelmed by the magnanimity of the health fair and the extent of services provided. She promised to work hard at Sacramento to help the underserved population. She also presented plaques to founding partners City of Anaheim, GBS Linens, Anekant Community Center and Lestonnac Free Clinic. This year, 12 volunteers who had been serving year after year since the first health fair in 2007 were recognized with a plaque. Founding sponsor GBS Linen’s Sudhaben Mody and sponsor Sarva Mangal Family Trust’s Rika Shah gave out the plaques. Names of those who have served between five to nine years were also announced and will be given certificates.
Dr. Shah in conclusion especially thanked and appreciated all patients who had come from near and far to receive treatment.
Besides dental and vision care all patients’ vital signs (BP, heart rate etc.) were measured. More than 1110 blood tests (glucose, lipid profile, cholesterol), 48 bone density assessment tests, 12 mammograms, 30 pap smears, and 100 EKGs were performed. 150 flu shots were given and Yoga demonstrations were held, Chiropractors treated 170 people while 160 benefited from Acupuncture.
