BUENA PARK, CA- The 5th Jamaica Eye Care Mission was sponsored by Drs. Kiran and Pallavi Patel Family Foundation. MBS Health Ministry, Inc. and Anekant Community Center organized the mission which took place at the Mandeville Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, Jamaica. 703 patients were screened for eye problems. Over 1000 pairs of sun glasses, reading glasses and prescription glasses were given away.
Ophthalmologists Drs. Vipul Prajapati and Nirav Modi did the bulk of the cataract surgeries joined by University of California, Irvine Dr. Wade and Dr. Archna Gupta from Florida.
Anesthesia was taken care of by Drs. Nitin Shah, Mark Awad and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists Clay Smith, Teresa H. and Laura Koh. Optometrist Dr. John Larcabal brought all eye equipment and glasses for eye screening and gave away glasses.
Dr. Gavin Henry, the local ophthalmologist, coordinated the mission and extended the invitation to the team for 2020.
