henna tattoos. The song, shot on the streets of Mumbai, attempts to capture the quintessential spirit of India , its color and vibrancy peppered with peacocks, sadhus, Hindu deities and kids celebration Holi. Beyonce is seen as a glamorous Bollywood diva featured on television sets, billboards, and on the silver screen. Coldplay’s frontman Chirs Martin can be seen heading to a movie theatre to watch her sing in front of an ornate wall adorned with flowers of different colors.
In the clip, she is donning a cleavage-baring gold and red ensemble with a crown and cape. In another scene, she is also seen wearing a heavily-embellished veil on her head with jewellery and henna tattoos. SoCal’s very own Sumita Batra, CEO of Ziba along with her lead artist Prabhuti Patel, who head the Ziba Salon at the Cerritos Mall, were the creators of the henna designs . Batra is known for her celebrity make-overs starting off with Madonna Her agency manager Francesca Tolet landed her this assignment with Queen Bey. Batra and Patel teamed up their artistry for an intricate henna design seen on Beyonce’s hands.
Speaking with India Journal Batra said the henna community was thrilled with the exposure . Natural henna was used for the design . The video will provide an educational opportunity for people to get familiar with the art of mendhi. Batra was all praise for Beyonce describing her as a phenomenal artist who is magical before the camera, amazing and hard working. She knew exactly what she wanted, not wanting to over do. Unlike other ‘divas’ though she had a lot to say, she was willing to listen to experts and work along with the creative team. She pulled off being a Bollywood star beautifully and elegantly, Batra added. Reacting to the ‘appropriation of culture’ criticism doing the rounds and putting the video in bad light, Batra said her interaction with Beyonce was anything but negative with no intention by the pop icon to offend or appropriate Indian culture in any way. Having worked with Madonna 15 years ago and now with Beyonce , Batra is emphatic in her opinion that the video will only enhance the beauty and age-old traditions of India and boost business. “ We should applaud and encourage these creative works of art,” she said.
