NORWALK,CA- To celebrate Yoga Day, the Gujarati Society of Southern California hosted Bhupendra Soneji and Marge from Sarathi Yoga Foundation at the Sanatan Dharma Temple on June 24. This event was attended by yoga enthusiasts of all ages ranging from grandparents to grandkids. The event began with Soneji introducing the purpose of yoga followed by the ‘Gyan’ hand mudra which improves our concentration and sharpens our memory.
Participants were instructed to sit holding this mudra throughout the session. Several breathing techniques were also discussed such as for the stomach and chest rejuvenation. Surya Namaskar is a series of postures that help gain the utmost benefits of a healthier body and mind. Marge gracefully demonstrated the Surya Namaskaar as the crowd practiced the postures. The recommendation was to practice these postures at least one time every day, preferably in the morning.
The yoga session ended with Yoganidra, which is the yogic way of sleeping or relaxing, a powerful technique to remove stress from all facets of life. Soneji guided the participants this portion as they lay with our eyes closed on the yoga mats. The yoga session was followed by a Question and Answer session and a traditional Gujarati dinner.
