LAKE FOREST, CA – Global Peace Foundation hosted an evening celebrating world peace day in Southern California. The mission of the Foundation is to promote peace locally and around the world. LAKE FOREST, CA – Global Peace Foundation hosted an evening celebrating world peace day in Southern California. The mission of the Foundation is to promote peace locally and around the world. The event was held at the Tandoor Banquet restaurant on Sept. 16. Mini Guleria welcomed and introduced Tilma Bista,
the first runnerup Nepal- USA 2011. Emcee for the evening was Rupsi Burman. The event commenced with the singing of the U.S. National Anthem by Sampurna Dube. The entertainment program kicked off with Nepali dancers, Manita & Gopal, who wowed the audience with their lithe moves and came to perform from San Diego. A gathering of more than 170 were captivated by speeches from distinguished speakers, such as; Guest of Honor, Sir Bruno Serato, a famous chef and CNN Hero 2011; who has got numerous awards for his humanitarian work. He explained how he spread peace by helping families and feeding 2000 children every day for free.
The keynote speaker Prem Guragain, a peace promoter and frequent UN speaker, in his speech told the audience how we can join forces together to spread peace. Dr. Hyder Zahed, scientist and authoralso spoke. All of them related their personal experiences and what global peace meant to them.
Monk, spiritual activist and meditation instructor, Dada Nabhaniilananda, also known as` The Monk Dude,’ who has won five international song writing awards explained to the audience the importance of meditation and music in peace. He involved the audience with chanting a mantra of baba nam kevalam, followed by a brief period of meditation that espoused love and enlightenment.
Famous Hollywood music composer Stephen Day who composed music for seven films, four albums and several TV shows explained the powerful medium of music with deep healing quality of meditation and played sarod.
Dr. Manorama Sharma Gupta., Founder and President of Global Peace Foundation in her speech explained how the Foundation has been helping children and families by donating toys, feeding the homeless and distributing blankets, arranging different cultural programs for children to show their talent and feel confident. She also explained the Foundation’s future plans which include a women’s leadership summit, youth day locally and internationally and celebration of World Peace Day. She urged attendees to be part of peace and join hands together to promote peace. She thanked all invited guests, speakers, performers, booth vendors, some who came all the way from NoCal, all other supporters. She specially thanked the organizing committee members who worked very hard to make this event successful.
A standing ovation was also given to Kamlesh Chauhan, who delivered a strong message for peace through her stirring monolog.
A Latin dance troupe who came to perform from San Diego astounded the audience with their marvelous tangos and jitterbug dancing while young students from Adda Dance Academy impressed the audience with their performance.
A live and silent auction to help victims of the recent hurricanes was also held and moderated by fundraising auctioneer John Kunkle of the television show, `Container Wars.’ Other speakers, Dr. Caren Rich and Je’Net Kreitner, both related personal stories of hope through adversity. Awards and certificates were given for outstanding community service and peace promotion, presented by Alan Vo Ford, a film producer. Elahe Amani was awarded as Peace Ambassador. Rani Kuusto gave vote of thanks.
