scenes presented by a storyteller that was inspired by the writings of the renowned R. K. Narayanan. With the storyteller symbolizing an artist, and the banyan tree his creative mind, the vividly imagined stories and poems unfolded on stage. Blending the five elements, the four seasons, the nine rasas, seven ragas and seven thalas into engaging dances, the episodes engaged and uplifted the audience. With music by Bombay Jayshsree Ramnath, Sreevalsan Menon and Arun Gopinath, stage direction by Victor Paul Raj, and a group of eight well trained dancers, the show was compared to a Broadway musical.
The event was presented by Rangashree Dances of India and Rama Charitable Arogyadham, with the help of the Society for Rural Assistance in India. Paulomi Pandit of Rangashree explained the motivation for presenting this event, “Presenting good performances to my students is part of their education in dance and culture. I can teach them, but only by seeing something beautiful like this, they will aspire. If the event supports a good cause, it is more satisfying.” Proceeds will provide vision care to the poor in India, where $30 is all it takes to restore eyesight to an elderly person suffering with cataracts. Jawahar Shah of Rama Charitable Arogyadham funds an eye hospital in Dwaraka where cataract surgery and other surgeries for correctable blindness are performed.
