Diamond Bar,CA - Sunshine Seniors Association (SSA celebrated Diwali at the Diamond Bar center here on Nov 30th. Even though belated, it was a memorable night drawing around 300. The musical evening included dinner and dance with singers Mosami Shah and Vishal Ailawadhi entertaining with melodious tunes and taking special requests. A variety of songs were sung throughout the night with something for everyone’s ears-from foot thumping dance music to mellow and melodious tracks. The invited guests for this fun filled night were Diamond Bar City Council members, members of other senior organizations and the donor members. The evening started with a hearty meal catered by Manohar’s Delhi Palace. SSA President Sushma Kahsyap honored the most senior member. Wilaiti Ram Sood, 97, who she described is like all SSA members ‘senior in years and maturity but young at heart, living life to the fullest’.
The rest of the evening was filled with music. Bollywood numbers resonated in the hall as couples paired up and headed to the dance floor. People were seen either having a ball of a time showing their moves to old Hindi film songs or singing along. Some of the more popular music of the night was Shammi Kapoor and Dev Anand songs. The musicians who helped make the night a success were orchestra members Anis on the keyboard/flute, Deepak Chandla on tabla and Rishi Thakar on Dholak and Octopad.
During the course of the night, an amount for $2500 was donated to the Sankara Eye Foundation as SSA’s donation to a worthwhile charity “Bringing light into the lives of people who had lost their eye sight and celebrating the true meaning of Diwali-the festival of lights”, announced Kashyap.
The musical extravaganza went on till midnight with never a dull moment.
