BY SONAM MIRPURI PASADENA, CA – Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan brought the house down during an electrifying concert which drove his fans crazy with appreciation at the Pasadena Civic Center on May 17 evening. Dressed in an off white outfit with gold work, along with his band of musicians the much anticipated concert by the legendary maestro gave the audience a run for their money.
The Back 2 Love Tour was presented by . Dylan Entertainment and Tisha Entertainment and drew thousands to the venue.
‘Yeh Jo Halka Halka,’ a qawwali, sung by his late uncle Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was undoubtedly the biggest hit of the night. This Sufi song as well as others he performed throughout the evening created such excitement among the audience which could not be contained. Even though security urged the audience members to go back to their seats, they still took chances to get out of their seats again and again to dance to the songs. To please all sections of the audience Khan performed a mix of Bollywood and Sufi numbers, specifically hits of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
The second biggest crowd pleaser of the night was Zaroori Tha.To create an unforgettable ambience for this performance, Khan had all of the lights in the concert hall turned off with only a spotlight directed at him.
‘Zaroori Tha’ was the first song to be released from the Back 2 Love album. Additionally, it was the first to have a music video. The emotional roller coaster single was brought to life by Gauhar Khan and Kusha lTandon. Breaking sale records and exceeding 40 million views on the RahatFAKhanVEVO YouTube channel,‘ Zaroori Tha’, has become a sensational hit with the masses, which was very evident in the concert.
As the evening progressed, the audience were treated to a number of Bollywodd hits. ‘Aas Paas Hai Khuda’ from ‘Anjaana Anjaani’ . Other well known songs included ‘Tere Bina’ (Tezz);‘Surili Aakhiyon Wale’ (Veer) was dedicated to Salman Khan; ‘O Re Piya’ (Aaja Nachle); ‘Dagabaaz’ (Dabangg 2); and ‘Main Jahaan Rahoon’ (Namastey London).
After a much needed intermission, Khan launched off with ‘Ajj Din Chadheya’ (Love Aa jKal) . To make it special all the lights were turned off and he asked the audience to light up their cell phone to create a “flashie”
Sporadically throughout the evening, Khan and his group performed songs that were epic crowd pleasers that caused the audience to clap, cheer, whistle, and sway in their seats. Some of these were ‘Mein Tenu Samjhawan’ (Virsa), ‘Tum Jo Aaye’ (Once Upon a Time in Mumbai); ‘Habibi Habibi’ (Back 2 Love);‘Teri Meri’ (Bodyguard); and ‘Tere Mast Mast Do Nain’ (Dabangg).
The concert owed much to Khan’s group of musicians who played a variety of instruments - drums, saxophone, tabla, dhol, keyboard, and guitar. Additionally, he had four accompanying singers whose talent came to the fore during the qawwali and jugalbandi. All of these various aspects created an enhanced experience for the audience.
Khan thanked everyone for being a part of the event and making it happen.
The next concert is on May 22 at the Laurie Auditorium in San Antonio, Texas.
