and American national anthems and the lamp lighting ceremony with members of the committee along with the chief guest B U Patel and his wife.
UFICA Chairman Ramesh Ramnani spoke on the significance of Republic Day. “We as Indians very well realize the importance of Republic Day and the Indian Constitution. It’s a day of great historical importance,” he said as he wrapped up his speech with the patriotic slogan ‘Jai Hind’.
UFICA Secretary Vasu Pawar, talked about the importance of Republic Day and then introduced UFICA president Dr Rangaesh Gaddasali who passionately shared his thoughts about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He highlighted that Modi came from the most humble beginnings and he has sacrificed a lot, put in 18- hour days for the phenomenal progress of the nation. “The economy has been doing great and India is donating money to other nations,” he added.
The cultural program was the high point of the evening as proud parents and supporters cheered on while the kids took to the stage. The dance performances were by Mishka Vineet who danced on a Bollywood mix; Vishakha Sabat, a classical dancer who performed on a song choreographed by her sister and Karishma Ramnani who performed on a NDM choreographed Bollywood dance.
Live music performances were by Sameer Nangia and Rajeshwari Kulkarni who kept the audience engaged.
B.U. Patel of Tarsadia Foundation was presented with a shawl in recognition of his contribution to the Indian-American community. Vice President Ashok Patnaik introduced and recognized community leaders and thanked sponsors. The evening ended with guests swaying on the dance floor as the DJ brought the house down.
