Panelists Discuss Yoga and Health at VYASA-LA Event

Dr. Dushyant Viswanathan  of the Columbia Center for Integrative Medicine and Drs. Amrit  and Nidhi Ram, who are on the faculty of S-VYASA in India.
The over 100 people who had gathered, learned of yoga possibilities through a video that was screened. The documentary first aired on PBS several years ago showing some of the pioneering research that was being conducted at S-VYASA Bangalore.    
This was followed by Nagendra’s explanation of yoga’s place in the individual’s health seconded by facts gleaned from research over three decades that was conducted by his organization, which primarily focuses on yoga therapy.  
VYASA-LA  had conducted yoga for diabetes courses at venues around SoCal through its teachers who have been trained in this and were able to teach based on specific yogic modules meant for the ailment.  Amrit Ram gave the audience some preliminary data on the positive impact of these targeted Yoga-for-Diabetes classes.   Dr.  Viswanathan briefly talked about his experience in utilizing yoga and plant supplements to promote a healthier lifestyle for his patients.  A short demonstration of the yoga practices he offers was made for the audience.  
All panelists highlighted the infallible role that stress plays in causing ailments and that it was imperative to removes those factors. The presentations were followed by comments by some of the participants  of the Yoga for Diabetes classes.  They said wholesome movement, diet and attitudinal changes had come with participation and helped many of them see positive results in a short span of time. Soneji of Sarathi Foundation, took the audience through a short meditative experience, followed by an expression of gratitude by Mataji Premananda of Eagle Enlightenment Center of South Central Los Angeles.   K.V. Chakrapani, the force behind the growth of VYASA – LA expressed his thanks to Swami Purnatmanandaji Maharaj, head of BSS for his continued support. Earlier, Padma Chode, Director of VYASA-LA  welcomed all and spoke of the work conducted by the group.  
The meeting concluded with a light dinner.
