FULLERTON, CA - SDM Cancer Relief Fund’s 31st Annual Banquet was held at Springfield Banquet Hall here on Oct 22 to a sold out crowd. Over $42,000 was raised to help poor cancer patients in India. SDM chairman Mathew Daniel welcomed the audience while Abraham Mathew, SDM president gave an update on the status of SDM.
FULLERTON, CA - SDM Cancer Relief Fund’s 31st Annual Banquet was held at Springfield Banquet Hall here on Oct 22 to a sold out crowd. Over $42,000 was raised to help poor cancer patients in India. SDM chairman Mathew Daniel welcomed the audience while Abraham Mathew, SDM president gave an update on the status of SDM.
Dr. Sreedevi Warrier . the newest director of SDM, was the key note speaker. Warrier visited the Regional Cancer Center in Trivandrum and personally distributed checks. SDM is currently helping poor cancer patients in four hospitals in Kerala - Trivandrum Regional Cancer Hospital, Trivandrum; Amala Medical Center, Trichur; Caritas Hospital, Kottaym; and Calicut University Hospital, Calicut. SDM is also sponsoring four beds at Amala Hospital and Caritas Hospital.
Ravi Vellatheri, on the Board, visited Amala Hospital in Trichur and personally distributed checks to poor cancer patients
Secretary Jai Johnson thanked all the donors and contributors.
Jay Zaveri of California State University, Long Beach was the star of the night who brought more than 50 guests from all walks of life including Pro-Tem Mayor of City of Pasadena. Mathew Daniel in his welcoming speech singled out Jay Zaveri and his wife Bhavana for their extra ordinary enthusiasm and passion as they also sponsored the first two raffle prizes, besides raising over $3500 from their guests. Vinodh Bahuleyan emceed the evening program. The entertainment segment included a comedy show by comedian Tarun Shetty, dance performance by the USC Bhangra group and live music by India Beats.
