ARTESIA, CA - The Overseas Friends of Bhartiya Janta Party (OFBJP), Los Angeles chapter met on March 22 to discuss ways to support the party in India on the onset of the general elections there. The meeting took place at the Haveli restaurant, here and marked the launch of a second organization in...
Southern California, with affiliation to the BJP. The occasion saw a gathering of interested members of the community, who socialized over appetizers before the formal session started. The event began with the lamp lighting ceremony followed by the rendering of Vande Matram. Miss India Southern California 2012, Priyadarshini Roy sang the US and Indian national anthems.
The formal inauguration of the Los Angeles chapter kick started with everyone enjoying video presentations highlighting the achievements of BJP in India including the praiseworthy leadership of Atal Behari Vajpayee.
L.A.’s BJP supporters then turned their attention to the goals of the local chapter and the ways and means in which they could help the party. OFBJP-LA will work towards some basic objectives which include strengthening social bonds among Indian-Americans and projecting a positive and correct image of India and its people in the U.S. and media.
Those who were present at the event were chief guest, OFBJP USA President Chandrakant Patel and guests of honor, businessman Sunil Tolani and California State Assemblyman Tony Mendoza. Also on the dais were OFBJP-LA coordinator P. K. Nayak and OFBJP executive committee member Anil Mahajan. Chandrakant Patel who spoke toward the end of the program, summarized the virtues of the BJP under the leadership of its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and the good that would come for the Indian nation if the party was voted into office. He exhorted Southern Californians to join in and support the party, its platform and in its candidate. Tolani said the party is ‘Nation First’ and said that BJP will not only form the next government but will bring India to the similar levels of Gujarat, maximize India’s rich cultural heritage and empower youth and women. A win for the BJP would be a huge win for India which will oversee the decline in inflation and budget deficits, he concluded.
