in his witty, humorous and implicating address, thanked the members and executive committee for extending him full support during his tenure. He also honored Bhavna Patel, Chairperson Auxiliary committee, Dr. Sri Iyengar, Chairman CME committee and Dr. S. Balasubramanium for their contributions. He welcomed incoming President Dr. Jayanti Patel.
In his address, Dr. Jayanti Patel said these were proud moments for him and added he would serve the organization with utmost zeal and commitment. The evening’s highlight was the lively “70s” theme classic Hindi movie songs. Amit Anand and Bhavna Patel took to the stage with their phenomenal voices and brought nostalgia in the air. The entertainment was breathtaking, taking everyone back to reliving the 70s. Amit set the tone with all time favorite, ‘Samaa Hai Suhana Suhana’ and Baddan Pe Sitare lapate Hue’. Every which way, it almost appeared as if there were multiple Amitabh Bachchan’s and Hema Malini’s within the crowd, with a few Raj Kapoor look alikes too! Love was in the air and all the beautiful couples danced to the tunes of the evergreen music of the 70s.The boys of Southern California’s finest bhangra team, “Got Bhangra?” awed the crowd with their energetic and talented performance that got the crowd out to the dance floor. They even had all the doctor’s doing the famous rail gaddi!
Continuous Medical Education (CME) sessions continued the whole day on Nov 8 led by Chairman, Dr. Sri Iyengar, which consisted of four CME speakers and one educational presentation. Topics included ‘Coronary Artery Disease in East Indian Population’ by Dr. Sanjiv Patel (Cardiologist); ‘The value of Perioperative Cardiac Ultrasonography’ by Dhilan Thuraisingham, (Anesthesiologist); ‘Gout’ by Kumar Venkat (Rheumatologist and Internist) and ‘Hurdles of EMS in India’ by S. Balasubramaniam (General and Trauma Surgeon). Educational talk ‘Long Term Acute Care: Uses and Advantages’ was given by Michael Kerr, CEO, Promise Hospital of East Los Angeles.
Commencing the weekend was Friday Nov 7 night’s Dinner and Garba, to which most attendeescame already prepared with their own dandiya in hand and danced the night away to Bhavna Patel’s lovely voice.
Yasmin Jolly, IMASC coordinator for the year 2014-15 while talking to IJ said association was founded in 1979 and was a well established non-profit, tax-exempt professional organization with physician members drawn from Orange, Riverside, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. She said members were leaders in academic medicine and leading edge research.
