Surender Dube, who hails from Raipur and is known for his satirist poems blended with humor started the laugh marathon. He addressed all the contemporary topics including politics, religion, culture, relations and health. All the poems had all the components to make it a complete piece of art as they had the proper blend of satire and message. Picking on the husband-wife relationship, Dube declared a wife practices a national and monumental insult on her husband at least once a day. On the most popular phrase said by almost everybody, ‘Time Nahi Hai (I don’t have time), he said we all say this phrase a couple of times a day, so how then did we grown in population in spite of lack of time? His poems made everyone a barrel of laughs. Sarita Sharma who had earlier sung the Saraswati Vandana at the lamp lighting opening ceremony, in her melodious voice was up next. While introducing her, Singh said she was a perfect blend of poetry and melody. He added she was known as queen of geet and gazals and her expertise was in the field of romantic poetry. Sharma started with one of her most popular creations, “Agar Lotaa Do To Tutaa Hua Vishwas Lotaa Do”, which discusses trust and love in a relationship. The poem, ‘Sari Duniya Se Dur Ho Jayo, Meri Aakhon Ka Noor Ho Jayo” was dedicated to the audience. Using the example of the river and the ocean, her next poem talked about how a woman would introduce herself to the world. Her poems were all emotion, wrapped in words that illustrated love, trust, desire, humor, pain and sadness of the highest order. Friendly bickering between Sharma and Singh made the event heart warming and full of laughter. Dube introduced Singh as the uncrowned king of Hindi humorous poetry. The writer of seven books and two CD’s Singh’s non stop hilarious presentation on elections, politics, marriage, language, alcohol, Laalu Prasad Yadav, Mallika Sheravat and Baba Ramdev among other, had everyone in splits of laughter. In one of his poems on political corruption, he talked about a currency bill that was rejected as it had a crying picture of Gandhi on it because the bill was exchanged in return of the vote. IASH President Jaspal Singh Maju, while talking to India Journal said, Hasya Kavi Sammelan had been a regular event of the organization since 2006. He said the organization is committed to the complete well being of the seniors, including their entertainment needs.
