from every generation at the Jain Center here on Feb 12. - Taking the audience on a musical trip down memory lane is one of the fondest ways to remember those warm and important moments in our lives that we hold dear. After enjoying a healthy and delicious vegetarian meal, it was time for the entertainment to start.
Ram Singhania, Vice President of IASH, cracked a few jokes about love and relationships. Jagdish Purohit, President of IASH, introducing the entertainers of the evening said, “Please give a warm welcome to the one and only Amit Anand and his orchestra.” He also took the opportunity to thank the board, sponsors, volunteers, and the audience for their help in making the event successful.
Beginning with the popular title track from “Satyam Shivam Sundaram,” Anand began with a bhajan as he said everything should start with a prayer. Anand, the lead singer of the night, focused on popular Bollywood songs from the golden era with hardly any contemporary songs. The only contemporary songs he sang were “Manwa Lage,” “Samjhawan,” “Tum Hi Ho,” and “Main Jahan Rahoon.” The audience sang and clapped along in unison creating a demand for more recent songs. Unfortunately, the demand was not met. Requests from audience members were taken. One of these was “Samjhawan.”When this began, couples got on their feet to sway to the music. Shammi Kapoor songs still creates a stir amongst audiences. The mash up that caused the audience to clap, cheer, and sing the loudest consisted of “Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyar Ke,”“Baar Baar Dekho” “Jaane Kahan Mera Jigar Gaya Ji,” and “Khwaab Ho Tum Ya Koi.”
Then again the compilation of songs that got the audiences on their feet consisted of “Nigahen Milane Ko Jee Chahta Hai,” “Ramayya Vastawaiyya,” and “Aaja Sanam Madhur Chandani.” Therefore, even though Shammi Kapoor songs cause audiences to go crazy it is his brother Raj Kapoor’s songs that get the same audience members finally out of their chairs and onto their feet to shake a leg. Bindu and Monica came together to sing “Kajra Mohabbat Wala” and given the opportunity Bindu sang another song, an unplugged version of “Ajeeb Dastan Hai Yeh.” They ladies mainly sang duets with Anand. As the night was coming to an end, the lights dimmed and most of the audience members got on their feet to enjoy the last few songs.
