ANAHEIM, CA – On June 1, the Founding Partners the City of Anaheim, Anekant Community Center, and GBS Linens, Inc., hosted a highly successful Eighth Annual Free Anaheim Health Fair at the Anaheim Convention Center, here which saw more than 900 people take advantage of the services provided.
Over 35 doctors, more than 20 dentists, and health care professionals all donated their time at this free one-day event, assisted by more than 250 volunteers. A partial list of the services offered included: Physical exams (vital signs and screenings); dental services (fillings of cavities and extractions); heart checks (EKG); cholesterol (lipid profile), diabetes (glucose) and anemia (hemoglobin) blood tests; bone strength measurement (bone density); women’s services (mammograms); chiropractic and acupuncture services; tattoo removal; and voluntary bone marrow donor program sign-ups. Overall, approximately, 700 blood tests, 87 bone density assessments, 33 mammograms, and more than 100 EKGs were performed.
The idea of bringing a “free” health fair to the City of Anaheim was first proposed in 2007 to Former Anaheim Mayor Pro Tem Harry Sidhu by Pravin Mody - Founder and Chairman of Anaheim-based GBS Linens, Inc., and Dr. Nitin Shah in association with Anekant Community Center. This formed the groundwork for what has now become an important annual event in the City of Anaheim. Co-Chairs for this year’s health fair were once again Anaheim City Council Members Jordan Brandman and Gail Eastman.
Shah said, “Why do free health fairs? Because health is the best wealth one can ever have. And, why volunteer? Because real happiness comes from helping a stranger.” Mody and Sidhu, expressed their “very special thanks” to all who continue to ensure the continuation of this important community event.
