NORWALK,CA- Shri Banke Bihari Seva Mandal and Sanatan Dharma Temple here,welcomed Param Pujya Acharya Shri Mridul Krishna Goswamiji for their week long celebration of the events in the Srimad Bhagwat. This annual event started on June 27 and ended on July 3 drawing hundreds of devotees.
NORWALK,CA- Shri Banke Bihari Seva Mandal and Sanatan Dharma Temple here,welcomed Param Pujya Acharya Shri Mridul Krishna Goswamiji for their week long celebration of the events in the Srimad Bhagwat. This annual event started on June 27 and ended on July 3 drawing hundreds of devotees.
Starting the week off was Shoba Yatra Bhagwat Mahima. The week continued with Shree Narayan Ka Virat Roop, Shiv Pariwar Jhanki, Dhurav Charitra, Shree Krishna ki Janam, and Shree Krishna aur Rukhmani ki Vivah. The week-long events concluded with Sudhama Charitra, Holi, and Vyaas Pooja.
Katha is an Indian style of religious story telling and Katha vahchak is reciting the religious text then following that with a commentary of the text. The opening Katha,Goswamiji brought to the temple was the “Shobh Yatra Bhagwat Mahima” and the 300-year-old Bhagwat Puran. On this night many of the women had an embellished “kalash” on their heads and sang to welcome Guruji into the temple on his 19th visit. Guruji explained the significance of the Shrimad Bhagawat mentioning that only souls that are pure are able to keep remembrance of Krishna Bhagwan. Goswamiji said the Srimad Bhagwat is a book of significant importance which contains an immense amount of wisdom that everyone should take time to learn from.
During the week, Guruji shared the story of King Parikshit who was cursed by a Rishi’s son and how he was cured in seven days by listening to Shrimad Bhagwat Katha. Following with 12 cantos of the Purana and different ‘leelas’ or the creative play of Lord Krishan including Lord Krishna Janam Leela.Guruji also gave a discourse on Goverdhan Pooja and Chhpan Bhog.
The Katha of Lord Krishna’s and Rukhmani’s wedding and an explanation of Rukhmani’s kidnapping on her own request was followed by Maha Ras Leela. On the concluding day, all devotees played ‘Phoolon Ki Holi’ (Holi of Flowers).
On July 2 during Goswamiji’s many explanations of the holy book, Deepak Hira, one of the organizers of this event, went up on stage to place a red and gold extravagantly decorated mukut upon Goswamiji’s head as a way of giving honor to a man many respect. During the discourses, Goswamiji would read events from the Bhagwat to the audience, translate them into a more easily understood version, and then interpret the meaning of the text to the about five hundred devotees.
The devout followers took the time to write down his interpretations as well as sing along with him as he sang multiple bhajans.
In order to personify Krishna and Rukhmani’s wedding Priyanka Patel portrayed Krishna and Divya Cowgill portrayed Rukhmani.
These events take place as a way to uphold and achieve Guruji’s mission.Which is “To serve and save cows from slaughter and poor living conditions.” Goswamiji’s most passionate and whole-hearted devotees consistently follow him on the television and on the internet.
