ORANGE, CA- Global Organization of People of Indian Origin – Los Angeles Chapter celebrated India’s 69th Republic Day with pomp at the Tandoor Cuisine of India here on Jan 26 for the first time, with over 150 guests enjoying the celebration. Kewal Kanda, Trustee welcomed and thanked everyone for their presence.
ORANGE, CA- Global Organization of People of Indian Origin – Los Angeles Chapter celebrated India’s 69th Republic Day with pomp at the Tandoor Cuisine of India here on Jan 26 for the first time, with over 150 guests enjoying the celebration. Kewal Kanda, Trustee welcomed and thanked everyone for their presence.
He invited Prakash Narain, former Mayor of Cypress and Ali S Taj, Artesia Councilman along with. GOPIO-LA president Anju Garg to the stage for the traditional lamp lighting ceremony. Garg sang the US national anthem followed by the Indian national anthem sung by all in the audience. Garg thanked the chief guests for their presence and thanked her team for doing all the leg work. She said, “this celebration wouldn’t be possible without the team’s dedication, efforts, and hard work”. Aparna Hande presented a slide show on India’s Republic Day.
Smita Das, GOPIO-LA’s chair for cultural events in coordination with Charuwati Sivakumar put together a vibrant cultural show that included India’s signature classical dances by Sneha Menon, Bollywood dances by Shelley Mitra and Mumbai Madness group led by Lavina Punjabi, and Bhangra by Manpreet Tahim. A dance on a patriotic song was performed by Sadhana Umashankar, Palak Tandon, and Jasmine Sivakumar as well as Monica Pal and Neil Pal. The cultural show was so entertaining that everyone in the audience were on their feet to watch the kids perform. Mumbai Madness group got everyone involved on stage to dance along with them. All performers were recognized and given certificates. All sponsors were also given Certificates of Appreciation.
Rajinder Dhunna, GOPIO-LA Vice President thanked the audience for attending the event and expressed appreciation to the performers and sponsors for their participation and support. The floor was then opened to everyone with DJ Sandeep Kumar inviting guests to show their dancing skills to the tunes of Bollywood and Bhangra songs. The event concluded with a sumptuous dinner.
