BUENA PARK, CA - Global Peace Foundation Celebrated World Peace Day on September 22, at Yellow Chili Restaurant here, at a houseful event to coincide with International Day of Peace, declared by the United Nations on September 21. The Program started with a song session emceed by Dilip Butani and Prem Guragain.
BUENA PARK, CA - Global Peace Foundation Celebrated World Peace Day on September 22, at Yellow Chili Restaurant here, at a houseful event to coincide with International Day of Peace, declared by the United Nations on September 21. The Program started with a song session emceed by Dilip Butani and Prem Guragain.
Emcees Vinaini Jayasinghe and Shona Patel invited the distinguished guests and committee members to come up on the stage for singing of the American National Anthem by Arti Garg and the lamp lighting. Students from Savithri Academy of Dance performed an invocation dance.
Keynote Speaker Barry Simon, President of the United Nations Association of the USA, Southern California Division, spoke about the importance of peace today and the role we can play to bring peace at home, in the community, in the nation and the world. Popular Hollywood Actress Kieu Chinh congratulated the Foundation for their dedication in helping the needy and for many other programs. Founder and President Dr. Manorama S. Gupta, spoke about the organization, its mission, vision, goals and welcomed all the participants from more than ten countries. She thanked all guests ,keynote speaker, awardees, volunteers, and acknowledged the organizing committee members for their hard work. She hoped the foundation could start a Peace University in the near future.
Many social workers, peace promoters, youth leaders were honored with plaques for their contributions to the community. Peace awardees who were chosen for their humanitarian work locally and Internationally were Dr. Sam Nguyen, Laxmi Prapanna Niroula, Alan V. Ford. Inspirational Youth Model awards were given to Anika Ortiz, Radhika Shah. Princess Junko Ishikawa and Rini Ghosh were given appreciation awards for their community services. Angela Tha Trin, Lot Duon, Dr. Tam Nguyen and Tony Le were appreciated for their donations to Rise Against Hunger.
Mayor of Westminster, Tri Ta congratulated the Foundation, and honored it with a plaque. An auction and raffle were also conducted. Tenzin and Pasang from Tenzin Imports donated 50% of all the proceeds from their sale and the raffle to feed hungry children. While other donors came forward and donated what they could. Dr. Sinduri Jayasinghe coordinated the cultural. Apart from Indian dances, an Irish dance was performed by Erika Weiler and Loa dance by Dalena Poxny.
