CERRITOS, CA - Gandhi Jayanti, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, was celebrated on the premises of the Chugh Firm here on Oct 2. The United Nations observes the day as International Day of Non-Violence, in keeping with Gandhi’s teaching of ahimsa or non-violence. The event opened with the lighting of candles near the life size statue of Mahatma Gandhi which has become a landmark of sorts.

This was followed by a prayer for world peace and universal brotherhood and speeches on Gandhi and his continuing impact in the world. The board of directors of Milaap USA, a non-profit foundation started by young entrepreneurs in India that provides low cost micro loans to India’s poor, were also present at the event and introduced to the audience. Later, all guests were treated to delicious snacks.
