and Karan Johar, along with Rapper Badshah - stormed the Forum, transforming it into a live, throbbing, foot tapping arena supercharged with energy , pyrotechnics, laser artistry, billows of smoke and innovative backdrops. Oomph, swag and bling reigned supreme as the stars made their appearance on stage, individually or in groups, to the screams of fans. The music of hit movies like ‘ Highway’, ‘Badlapur’, ‘Sultan’ and the yet to be released ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ hit the audience who were saturated with the high-voltage dance and music which lasted well over two hours, brought to SoCal by Super/Dylan Entertainment.
Though the show started almost an hour late, opening the show was Alia Bhat glittering in a black sequined outfit with her first song in Punjabi ‘ Main Tenu Samjhawan Ki’ from the film ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya,’ to the joy of her fans. Petite and lithe she danced dazzling her fans going on to perform other hits from her movies like ‘Highway’ and ‘Udta Punjab’.
With quick costume changes she set the mood for each item and exited the stage with an array of red ballons descending from the ceiling of the auditorium to match her red cape as she sang the signature song from the movie ‘Shaandaar’.
Shifting gears, and providing eye candy for the female fans, was Aditya Roy Kapoor, shimmering in his outfit opening his performance with ‘Sunn Raha Hai Na Tu’ from his hit movie ‘Asshiqui 2,’ a quieter and gentler performance complete with his guitar. In contrast he went on to more energetic numbers with pyrotechnics lighting up t he stage from his hit film ‘ Yeh Jeewani Hai Deewani.’ Making a striking entrance was Sid Malhotra, who was lowered on to the stage strapped into a harness, with fans screaming, he broke out in Punjabi with his hit song ‘Teri Galiyan’ from ‘Ek Villain.’Dresssed in gliterring mesh he gyrated to hits like ‘Kar Gayi Chul’ and ‘Lets Nacho.’ Both Aditya Kapoor and Malhotra appeared in different stages of undress during their performances– finally ripping off their shirts to expose their six-pack abs to the delight of the female fans.
Then it was time to rap, as Badshah made his way on stage, getting comfortable with the audience, speaking in Hindi and Punjabi. Starting off with a crowd favorite ‘Baby ko Bass Pasand Hai,’ he urged fans to get up and dance and turn the Forum into the biggest nightclub in LA. For his fans out to party, he continued with hits like ‘Abhi to Party Shuru Hui Hai’ and ‘Wakhra Swag.’
The non- stop show , then proceeded with Parineeti Chopra , first cousin to the internationally acclaimed Priyanka Chopra. Swinging in a cirque like performance she began with a Punjabi number ‘Main Ki Kara.’ She wowed her fans with her moves to numbers like ‘Jigar Ka Tukda’ and ‘Jaaneman Aah.’
Making a daring entry was Varun Dhawan, who strapped into a harness, was lowered from the high ceiling of the Forum, bang into the center of the auditorium. Walking up to the stage he greeted the audience with ‘Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal’. Endearingly, he dedicated ‘Maa Teri Chunariya’ to moms in the audience, starting off with ‘This one’s for you mom. I love you.’ Going on with others hits loved by the audience including ‘Aaja Mera Jee Karda’ from ‘Badlapur.’
Like the other guys, he too ripped his shirt off, exposing his six-packs to the cheers of fans.
Then it was time for Katrina Kaif, considered one of the best dancers in Bollywood and one of the most beautiful women in the world. Making a spectacular entry, walking up to the stage through the long aisle, with a entourage of hooded companions, she threw off the disguise and broke into dance with hits like ‘Chikni Chameli,’ ‘Dhoom Machale’ and ‘Sheila Ki Jaawani.’
With superb artistry and skill the huge troupe of backup dancers deserve to be lauded for supporting each of the performances and making them come alive.
Before the multi talented Karan Johar made an appearance, it was time for Badshah to perform the top of the charts ‘Kala Chashma’ from the movie ‘Baar Baar Dekho.’ The popularity of this number has reached such heights that it was sung even at the recently concluded Rio Olympics!.
Known for his wit and charm, Johar came on stage dancing to a medley of songs. Famous for his gift of the gab as a host in ‘Koffee with Karan’ and a judge in various shows, he kept up a lively interaction with the audience and then got the entire Dream Team involved, even giving a chance to a select number of audience members to come on stage and join them.
Before exiting, Johar called the organizers , Super/Dylan Entertainment, on to the stage – Bhalinder Bhalla, Virender Bhalla, Dr Anil Shah and Preety,Drs Shubha and Sanjiv Jain, Drs Ninna and Bharat Patel and Anil and Poonam Suri - and thanked them for hosting this one-of- a kind event. In response, Dr Bharat Patel, speaking to the audience thanked the fans for attending and being part of this huge event which has travelled to many cities in the US and the sponsors and volunteers who made it all possible.
It was time for the finale. With the entire Dream Team taking part individually, in pairs or in groups it was a fitting end to a well executed, slick production. The performances included a range of older and contemporary numbers like ‘Disco Dewane,’ ‘Bang Bang’ ‘Diliwali Girlfriend’ with the highlight being ‘Kala Chashma’ performed by Katrina and Siddharth ending with the entire team gyrating to the high-energy ‘Shava Shava.’ With a rain of confetti falling on to the audience and the Dream Team throwing soft toys and other souvenir to the fans, the curtains came down , to an evening well enjoyed by the thousands who got a run for their money.
