an opportunity for members of the community to connect and keep age-old traditions alive. Co-Chairs for the event Ram Singhania and Jagdish Purohit greeted all in the packed hall a ‘Happy Diwali’ and received an exuberant response from an audience who had just enjoyed delicious dinner. The lamp lighting done by the main sponsor Krishna Reddy , his wife and spouses of IASH Board members, threw the event open. Outgoing president Jaspal Singh Manju was recognized for his exemplary service and presented with a plaque. Addressing the audience Manju , a retired Indian Navy officer, acknowledged the honor of serving the community and kept the audience humored with his signature jokes. Krishna Reddy and his wife were honored too with the presentation of a shawl while Rameshbhai Rawal was presented a plaque in recognition of his services.
And then it was time for Preetysha and Sameer to hit the stage and regale the audience eagerly waiting for the opening bars to fill the air. Starting off with the melodious rendition of a shloka she went on to sing ‘Satya Shivam Sundaram.’ From then on the audience was kept mesmerized by her artistic versatility and the range of her repertoire. Apart from Bollywood hits, she is a master of bhajans, ghazals, semi classical and quawali. She took the audience on a musical journey starting with the music of Lata Mangeshkar- her idol -, Asha Bhonsle, Geeta Dutt and many more, and the audience just loved it.
The ‘oldies’ and the more contemporary hits were all lapped up by an interactive and engaged audience. Sameer, also known as the Southland’s ‘AR Rahman’ joined her to sing legendary duets by Lata and Hemant Kumar. Sameer, a versatile instrumentalist on the keyboard and guitar and vocal artist went on to perform solo evergreen numbers of R.D.Burman, Ishwar Kumar and others. The almost four hour long show gave the audience a run for their money and put them in a festive spirit.
