the dance floor. Mathrani is a versatile entertainer who started the night off with a bang. The event was held to raise funds to build a new Radha Raman Vedic Mandir. This new temple will be a better and bigger modified version of its predecessor.
Chief guest for the evening was Mayor of Placentia Chad P. Wanke . He has been supporting the temple and doing everything he can on his end to assist in ensuring that all aspects of the project happen in a swift and proper manner.
“I am going to make sure this project happens because it is a good project that will benefit the community,” said Wanke addressing the gathering prior to the performances.
Not only did Mathrani perform the opening dance, he also participated in the Revolution dance. The opening dance number consisted of three songs: a Ganesh bhajan, Raghupati Raghav (Krrish 3), and Dilliwaali Girlfriend (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani). The Revolution dance was a mashup of Shah Rukh Khan songs: Mitwa (Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna), Tumhi Dekho Naa (Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna), and Deewangi Deewangi (Om Shanti Om) which included dialogs from Aankhein Khuli (Mohabbatein). This adorable dance was performed by children of the Revolution Institution of Performing Arts. Then it was time for Charenjeet to start. He kicked off by singing off stage leaving the audience wondering where he was. A few seconds later he appeared on his way to the stage. His first song of choice was Suno Na Sangemarmar (Youngistaan). Singh continued singing a variety of songs that were enjoyed by audience members from an assortment of generations. Most of the songs he sang were slow and melodious keeping in mind the tone he wanted to set for the evening. “I want this evening to be simple and beautiful,” Singh said as audience members swayed to the songs.
Singh also introduced one of his students,a girl who he described as being energetic and dedicated.
Maya Batra, 20-year-old, singer songwriter began learning how to sing from Singh at the age of six and continued for about three years. Batra sang three songs; two covers and an original song.
Her selection of covers were an Ariana Grande mashup and ‘Thinking Out Loud’ by Ed Sheeran.Batra’s original song is titled ‘Like a Girl.’ Her message behind this song is that the phrase ‘like a girl’ has negative connotations and that the association of this phrase needs to change. Although more than half of the audience left prior to Singh’s return after the break, he continued to sing and perform to the best of his abilities. Singh did not let this alter his performance. In fact he made light of the situation by singing the infamous Dev Anand song, ‘Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar’ (Hum Dono). Most people choose to begin their shows with a dedication to God; however, Singh chose to do the complete opposite. He decided to end with a bhajan’ Dama Dum Mast Kalandar.’
