BUENA PARK, CA - Jain Center and Anekant Community Center coalition came together again to provide free multi-specialty medical service at a camp for a huge number of needy at Jain Center of Southern California here on March 1. and making them accessible to the public has been a goal of the Jain Center since its inception 25 years ago. Mayor of Buena Park, Art Brown, who attended the event, said it was an honor to be present and wished all good life and health. Going down memory lane, he said he still remembered the first camp that was held in 1991 in the parking lot of Jain Center but the spirit, motivation and commitment to serve has remained the same. Dr. Nitin Shah, the key person to launch the health camps, addressing the audience, said 70% of people treated were without insurance and 10% were non-Indian. He said a three-day free health fair in Anaheim will take place from May 29 to 31 at the Anaheim Convention Center where in addition to other services, 100 dental chairs will be provided and 300 pair of eye glasses will be given free of cost to the needy. President of Jain Center, Virendra Shah said the Anekant Community Center was not only active in SoCal and other parts of the US but all over the world wherever people needed their services. Kantilal Shah, President Anekant Community Center thanked the participating doctors, volunteers, sponsors and participants for their help and assistance. Dr. Ramesh Kothari Incharge of health camps, who also emceed the validation function said the driving force behind the camps was ‘Karuna’, the compassion taught to us by Lord Mahavira and the values inculcated by our ancestors and parents.
Over 50 doctors and consultations were provided to participants in cardiology, orthopedic, ophthalmology, dentistry, gynecology, gastroenterology, dermatology, internal medicine, homeopathy, ayurveda, yoga, nutrition, physical therapy and basic life support. Nearly 175 got their blood work done, 50 received dental treatment, 40 EKGs, 18 mammograms and 17 pap smears were done free of charge. More than 100 volunteers participated in the huge service event.
