BUENA PARK, CA - The Anekant Community Center held a ‘Music Masala Hungama’ night to celebrate their 10th anniversary on October 10 at the Jain Center here. The evening was filled with a variety of talents utilized to create an atmosphere of entertainment to amuse and intrigue music lovers who paid for a night of pleasure.

Singers, dancers, and a comedian showcased their talent to keep the audience entertained. The dynamic duo who sang the night away were Dipali Singh and Vishal Vij. The comedian who made the audience laugh so hard till their stomachs hurt was Sunil Thakkar while the dancers who set the stage on fire belonged to the Bollywood Step Dance troupe.
Curtains drew to reveal the singing stars of the night, Singh and Vij who kicked off the night with “Ainvayi Ainvayi” from “Band Baaja Baaraat” originally sang by Salim Merchant and Sunidhi Chauhan.
Continuing their set list, Singh sang “Jiya Re” from “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” which was initially sang by Neeti Mohan. Not only did Singh sing the song she additionally rapped the parts that were originally rapped by Sofia Ashraf.
With Vij back on stage, the duo sang the infamously known “Tum Hi Ho” from “Aashiqui 2” initially sang by Arijit Singh. Creating a duet of this song, Singh joined in to sing this track as well. Singh and Vij sang with great passion, expressing the appropriate emotions for each song which went down well with the audience. Audience members started to whistle, cheer, and clap so loudly for the widely popular “Tum Hi Ho” when the duo recreated the most pivotal moment of this song by staring at each other like Aditya and Shraddha did in the movie. Comedian Sunil Thakkar then made an entrance. He utilized the various individuals who were in attendance to create spontaneous jokes in addition to a some prepared ones.One of the favorites with the audience was comparing WhatsApp to diapers as people feel compelled to constantly check their phones like parents check their child’s diaper. The audience roared with laughter at this hilarious comparison.
“I love to make people laugh and I love to entertain,” said Thakkar in between his many jokes.
Then it was back to the singing duo. Vij sang “Roop Tera Mastana” from “Aradhana” originally sang by Kishore Kumar, “Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche” from “Brahmachari” sung by Mohammed Rafi and Suman Kalyanpur.
Thakkar came back on stage to continue to poke fun at different ethnicities of India. He took time to figure out which ethnicities were in attendance and crack jokes on them. Not even the singers were spared!
Thakkar told a story about how he had asked one of his gym going friends what was the best machine in the gym to learn to use to impress a girl. To which his friend replied -an ATM machine! The audience laughed so hard at this!
Anekant Community Center members then gave a video presentation on the history of the organization and its growth over the decade. Anekant (which means non-absolutist thought) Community Center has its roots in Southern California and has worked hard over the decade for the improvement of the health of its members and also performed various humanitarian tasks. ACC was established as a non-profit, non-religious organization in January 2005 to pursue these goals. The goals include providing charitable education, culture, training, economic development activities, health education and prevention services not only to adults and children but also to senior citizens of Southern California.
Following the presentation, it was time for music once again and Singh and Vij came back to sing a few upbeat songs. “Jumme Ki Raat Hai” originally sang by Mika Singh and Palak Muchhal was the first song of choice.
Vij and Thakkar jumped off the stage to walk around amongst the audience while Singh continued to sing from the stage.
Bollywood Step Dance then took to the stage with an energetic performance to “Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah” from “Jodhaa Akbar,” a remix of “Choli Ke Peeche,” from “Khalnayak,” “Taal Se Taal Mila” from “Taal,”“Dola Re Dola” from “Devdas,” “Lovely” from “Happy New Year,” and “Jai Ho” from “Slumdog Millionaire.”

Singh sang “Mere Dholna” from “Bhool Bhulaiyaa” which was originally sang by Shreya Ghoshal and M. G. Sreekumar while Vij sang “Har Kisi Ko Nahi Milta” from “Boss” which was initially sang by Nikhil D’Souza. The night came to a rocking end with ``Sajh Dajh Ke” from ``Mausam” originally sang by Mika Singh and Pankaj Kapoor.
