of India. In 2007, when AID LA-OC conceptualized Holi on the beach with 10 volunteers, little did they imagine its growth. Harsha Devjani, one of the lead organizers of the event that was held at the Will Rogers State Beach here, says “This year’s response has been unparalleled. We had people come down across diverse cultures. The quantity of funds raised was very significant in the context of our grassroots development work in India.”
This event was only made possible through a dedicated volunteer effort and the execution was nothing less than remarkable; from color distribution, to handling huge lines at check-in, to handling food refreshments, everyone made it count!
Sridhar Vemuri, AIDLA-OC President says “this event is a huge success due to the great execution by an entirely volunteer group which enables us to minimize costs and maximize proceeds for meaningful and impactful projects in the disparaged communities of India.” Karan Sahni, Yashas Hegde were also event leads who worked tirelessly for the past 4 months to support to this event.
This year the event was sponsored by JBL- Hear the Truth, a sound company was heard by thousands. DJ Sukh, spanned the best of Bollywood beats and kept the crowd energized and entertained. Rasoi Curry Point in Tustin and Asha Indian Restaurant in the Valley area sponsored delicious food. Vijay Vaswani, one of the volunteers who has become notorious for dancing on tables while simultaneously handing out color in style says, “it is an exuberant experience we can’t deny.”
