SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The Indian Consulate, San Francisco held the first International Yoga Day at the Marina Green Park, here on June 21. that was organized in association with the Art of Living Foundation, Isha Foundation, Bramha Kumaris, Yoga Ascent of North America, Ashtanga, Overseas Volunteers for better India, Hindu Swayam Sevak Sangh, Yoga Bharathi, Iyengar Yoga and several others.
The event started with a prayer and was followed by several sessions of yoga by the participating groups. A video message by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was played in which he highlighted the positive aspects of the yoga. People in attendance also thronged the booths established by the participating groups and associations.
Jaitley described yoga as an art and science that stabilizes the human mind, controls the human emotions and brings the human body back in tandem in a state of fitness. Stating that it is now a codified science and the world today adopts it as an established practice, he added that “I must say that we are delighted that coming from a civilization where it started that it carries the message of peace, humanity, well being of the human being and the human mind world across.”
Several other dignitaries including Consul General Ashok Venkatesan; CEOs of several tech companies; a Councilmember from the Bay Area; and other prominent personalities from the community participated in the event.
The event received sponsorship support of several businesses and industries in the area.
