DELHI-The Delhi police will send a team to the US to get back the viscera samples of Sunanda Pushkar, the wife of the Congress Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor who was found dead in mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in New Delhi two years back. The Ministry of Home Affairs has written a letter to the police asking to get back the samples following a reminder from the FBI.
In October last year, the FBI had approved the report of All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) that poisoning was the cause of death of Sunanda Pushkar. FBI said that a dangerous chemical was present is her body and it may have lead to her death. The viscera samples have been lying in the US even after months of having submitted the test report.
The police team investigating the case is gearing up to complete the probe. They have asked the forensic lab to submit the final report on the gadgets recovered from Pushkar’s room soon.
Though the FBI report endorsed the findings of the AIIMs regarding poisoning, the police have not been able to find the exact cause of Pushkar’s death. Sunanda Pushkar, 51, was found dead in her hotel room in New Delhi on January 17, 2014. The viscera samples of Pushkar were sent to the US since there was no facility in India to identify the poison content in her body. The police suspected that she died of some kind of poison.
Tharoor has been questioned several times by the police in connection with the case. Six people, including Narain Singh, Tharoor’s domestic help, driver Bajrangi and family friend Sanjay Dewan have undergone polygraph tests.(PTI)
