PHILADELPHIA, PA-The 76ers once again hosted the Second Indian-American Heritage Night at the Wells Fargo Center here on December 3, in their Atlantic Division matchup against the Boston Celtics. As they have done in the past, the event recognized people of Indian heritage with influence in social causes. Special guests honoured this year included Anu Hans of Johnson & Johnson and representatives from the NGO,
Heart Hand for the Handicapped (HHH). Event organiser Priya Roy also honored Tom Seiler of the TSG Group, and Jon Stauff, VP from Monmouth University.
The festivities continued throughout the night as representatives of HHH were recognised midcourt at the arena. Ami Patel Hopkins – a leader in Indian-American and Philadelphia education communities – was given the Firstrust Bank Game Changer Award. At half-time, popular local Indian dance troupe AATMA performed to a medley of Bollywood songs for the fans in the audience. After the game, fans invited to the event got to meet and greet with 76ers’ French swingman Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot.
It was also a special night for Philadelphia basketball in general. This was the night that the 76ers honoured the 50th anniversary of the championship-winning 1966-67 Philadelphia 76ers. Several of the living members from the team were honoured midcourt at the game against the Celtics, including legends like Billy Cunningham and Hal Greer.
