NEW DELHI - Delhi Police on March 25 chargesheeted eight men in a court here on the charges of molesting three foreign nationals on Holi in the national capital. The charge sheet filed before Metropolitan Magistrate Ankita Lal alleged that the accused—Surjeet, Prince, Krishanjeet, Gurdeet, Jaspal, Vijay Singh, Sunny and Deepu— heckled the foreigners and slapped them. The police said that accused with their common intention had wrongfully restrained and molested the three women.
The incident took place on March 17 afternoon when the three young women, who hail from Germany, South Africa and Columbia, were going to Garden of Five Senses in an auto rickshaw after shopping at Select City Walk mall at Saket in south Delhi, the charge sheet said. “As their auto reached Press Enclave road in south Delhi, it was waylaid by a Toyota Fortuner vehicle whose all eight occupants, who were drunk, then molested the women,” it said.
The police said that on being resisted, they also heckled them and slapped the victims. The charge sheet said that the men got out of the SUV and smeared color on the women, telling them it was a common practice to put colors on strangers during Holi.
“When the women, who are here on a tourist visa, raised an alarm, the assailants fled from the spot in their SUV,” the charge sheet added. The women had come to India along with a tourist group and were staying at a hotel in Paharganj. “After the complaint was registered by the police, all the accused were arrested on March 18.
