BANGALORE: The government is now pressing forward for e-tourist visa scheme by increasing it to 31 countries and permitting foreign tourists to benefit from the facility that will be provided in seven more airports by June 15. The countries to reap the benefits from the latest extension will include United Kingdom, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Malaysia, Tanzania and Argentina, reports The Economic Times.
The airports that have recently been entered to the existing list of nine where the existing list where foreign citizens from the eligible countries could land with an e-tourist visa will now comprise of the added airports that includes Jaipur, Amritsar, Gaya, Lucknow, Trichy, Varanasi and Ahmedabad. On account of proximity to major tourist spots, these airports have been chosen as they generate a vast number of foreign tourists.
Presently the e-visa scheme includes 45 countries that can be benefited across nine international airports. The scheme that is set to legitimize by June is expected to go further up and increase to 76 countries and 16 airports.
Those countries that are now eligible for the scheme are Argentina, Armenia, Aruba, Belgium, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Hungary, Ireland, Jamaica, Malaysia, Malta, Mongolia, Mozambique, the Netherlands, Panama, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Surinam, Sweden, Tanzania, East Timor, Turks & Caicos Islands, the UK, Uruguay and Venezuela. For the Budget 2015-16, Finance minister Arun Jaitley has proposed an extension of e-visa scheme to go up to 150 countries.
