On the heels of debuting her first album, Anjali has forged a path for herself that is very unique within the Indian community. Anjali’s love for music began in the household. Her mother was a singer and her brother is currently a music producer. She also attributes much of her musical style to the community she grew up in. Hip-hop music was prevalent in the Bay Area during Anjali’s upbringing. Tupac was highly influential to...
her because his music had a poetic flow to it. She even considers the track Keep Your Head Up as one of her favorite songs of all time. As a songwriter, Anjali connected with this and developed a similar approach to her own music. A blend of R&B & Pop with a twist of Indian fusion, Anjali’s musical talents have garnered praise from some of the elite artists in the industry.
However, the road to success did not come without hard work. Anjali joined a woman’s chorus after graduating high school. To further hone her musical talents, she hired a vocal coach who is trained in Opera. Even though the polarity exists between this type of musical form and the type she currently performs, Anjali attributes much of her vocal prowess to the education she gained from learning Opera.
Along with her musical gift, Anjali also has a keen relationship with animals. Growing up in a household full of pets led her to study Animal Conservation at UC Berkeley. Specializing in Marine Sciences, Anjali started a non-profit organization called Jaws & Paws, whose mission is to spread awareness for the conservation of endangered species. Currently, their attention is focused on sharks, polar bears, and tigers because each of these species are keystone predators that maintain a healthy balance in their ecosystems. Their importance within this system is a key reason why Anjali and the rest of the team at Jaws & Paws work diligently to bring these species’ decline to the attention of the government, media, and people at large. Furthermore, Anjali has not only given her time to this cause but also has opened up her wallet. All the proceeds from her upcoming album and EP will go directly to the non-profit. She even goes by the moniker Anjali World, a branding decision she made to shine a light and spread awareness on a global scale for an issue she holds very close to her heart. Anjali’s latest single is called Nobody and features the rapper Tyga. She will be releasing an EP in February followed by her first studio album shortly after.
